Work in progress performance by Nathaniel Moore
I dream a highway is a contemporary dance performance about our relationship to future kin, and what we offer them as inheritance.
The work is inspired by the words of Nora Chipaumire: “ancestors live in your bones, and even if you lost connection with them, they are there.” If ancestors live in our bones, then surely we will live in the bones of the future. I dream a highway experiments with this relationality, offering a landscape for envisioning a relationship with that which is both beyond and inside oneself.
The audience is positioned as the future, from where they witness archeo-choreographic remnants from the year 2026. A dancer from 2026 performs four references to contemporary dance pieces, while a dancer from the future receives these dances as echoes in their body. This dance happens in a boneyard of plastic sculptures by Maori Thienot, and is enveloped by a composition of broken organs and americana music by Charlie Usher.
