Soliloquy and Monologue: Workshop by Camille Kingué /// 11AM-2PM
The workshop will focus on the theme of the soliloquy and the monologue, and more specifically on the question of address in poetry. It will explore the formulation of an “I” in dialogue with an invisible “you.”
The corpus of texts used will mainly consist of female, queer, and/or racialized bodies (Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore, Star Finch, Jenny Holzer, Claudia Rankine).
The proposed framework is that of the enunciative situation of queer and/or racialized bodies. Because of their position as minoritized subjects, they are in constant dialogue with a norm (e.g., “double consciousness,” “internalization of norms”). This is a norm with which they negotiate. They constantly move back and forth between the interior and the exterior.
The aim, through writing, is therefore to highlight this inherent presence of the Other in the way certain subjects articulate themselves. This Other, always present, may take several forms, and the relationship may take different modalities. Is it the Other invoked to emphasize its violence? Is it the Other summoned for confrontation? What stance does the subject adopt in relation to them (withdrawal, submission, irony...)? These are the different facets we will examine together, and participants will produce a text in response to these questions.

Camille Kingué (b. 1994) is a bilingual writer and a freelance translator from English to French, based in Paris. Her work as a writer and translator explores intimacy, the body, and affect through the lenses of sexuality, gender, and racialization. She is currently working on two translation projects: a collaborative translation of Justin Chin’s Bite Hard with brook editions (2026), and a translation of a text on the role of Black women in Andy Warhol’s cinema for shmooks (2027).
