Since 2016, the Dark Corners Walk by Clément Thiry has invited a small audience to stroll the streets of Brussels between midnight and 2am to visit its under-lit spaces. It’s an immersion into the heart of the darkest urban areas, punctuated from time to time by whispered texts and sung lullabies. Plunged into a wandering rêverie, the walkers sometimes take on the appearance of somnambulists traversing the sleeping city.
Following the Dark Corner Walk, Drowsy Drift proposes an experience of wandering and collective sleep under the influence of Brussels’ nocturnal urban context. At the begining, the public is invited to lie down on mattresses and be lulled to sleep by a soundtrack drawn from the recording of the Dark Corners Walk, accompanied by a few video images. The aim is to pay particular attention to the way in which our brains can wander when we’re falling asleep or when we’re about to dream. After that, we can let ourselves wander through sleep.
How can sleepiness influence our perception of reality in this context? How do the dreams of different people come together? Do they intersect and interfere? Can they together constitute a source of thought?
